iPad vs. Blackberry RIM

I was thinking a lot about something Bill Gates said about the iPad lacking a keyboard.  He might have a point, I could see Blackberry users flocking for a Notepad size device that ran RIM’s OS and software, and had keyboard. The Blackberry slate perhaps?

What do you think?

P.S. I went looking for a pic and found another blog with the same idea. Hello RIM!?!?!

Had a long look at a bunch of comparisons, from % market share to functionality.
Must say though that the articles were by journalists and not bloggers, so i’m going out a limb here and will believe that there may be some biased reporting that could skew the picture they paint of a Iphone/Ipad killer.

Personally the blackberry doesn’t seem to me to be anything near a IPad killer.
I believe the keyboard is highly overrated in mobile devices, and nowhere do i believe this to be more true than in the case of the IPad.
As someone that has come all the way from nokia, samsung, sony-erikson, HTC and now owns a IPhone i can say that i really don’t miss the keyboard at all.

Of course there will be a market share that prefers and seeks the device with a keyboard, and of course there will be company’s that will build devices for this part of the market.

But I believe that this group will become smaller as time moves on.
The IPad in my mind remains a cause set in motion, and I can’t wait to see what it evolves into in the next 5-10 odd years.

      Peter,

My wife has an iPhone and neither of us miss the keyboard when using the touchscreen on the iPhone. Other devices that use resistive tochscreens do make me want to cry at times. Again while I agree, there is many a business person that just want give up their crachberry because of the keyboard. So although, it may not be a iPad killer, it may still have a money making market.

      Windows phone 7 pad anyone?
