I don’t think of myself as a cheapskate, but I sure do like to minimize cost. In this case, I have been using DimDim – a remote desktop conferencing tool. DimDim allows up to twenty participants for FREE. A four letter word that like a lot! Anyway, it seems to work great on XP, and has some UAC issues on Vista. But for free – it is very very usable, and I suspect they are working on making it a better experience in Vista and in future, Windows 7. ( I was reminded that is also supports Mac OS X )
Besides presentations, sometimes you need a quick and easy way to help resolve a problem on a remote computer or demonstrate how to accomplish some task. Well then there is Techinline to the rescue. Its a top notch solution for remote desktop support and is inexpensive compared to its competitors. It would be choice for small business remote assistance. After the free trial, you can purchase five sessions for as little as twenty dollars. My only complaint is how the screen was scaled. Other than that, it works great.
Check them both out.

I’ve tried both of those, but I prefer Instant Housecall because it works well with Vista and has more features.
They offer a free version (not advertised for some reason) that I’ve been using for a while that you’ll see when you download it. I find it much easier than other solutions and far more powerful.

Keith-
Thanks for mentioning Dimdim. Our customers have been clear they want a remote control capability as well, so the team is working on it.
Thanks!

I’m currently using Techinline (made the switch from LogMeIn Rescue) and I absolutely love their setup! First of all, it’s the easiest service to use in terms of connecting to the remote user, and it is the most affordable solution on the market that I’ve personally come across. Concerning the screen scaling, there are actually options to change the way the screen appears so you can try that to see if that improves the appearance for you.

Our company currently using Techinline. We researched many remote support solutions in the market. Techinline was our choice thanks to its flexibility and ease of use. Our customers are located all over the world and Techinline improves considerably the efficiency of customer service. Our customers are very impressed with the speed we can service them now. It requires only a web browser to run and has clear, easy-to-use interface and offers flexible configuration options. Techinline Remote Desktop supports desktop sharing and file transfer that works with firewalls and Proxy.

We’ve just tried DimDim for the first time this week. The presentation (including webcam) went well. We demonstrated our web-based issue tracking system / online CRM live for the customer without a hitch.
pros:
- The basics worked: presentation & desktop sharing
- The price (free)
cons:
- There was a glitch with dual monitor support
- found the dial-in audio to be poor
- no toll free option for dial in and no international dial in
- Really want remote desktop!
We have experience
